Welcome

Welcome

Welcome : We are Take Note Edinburgh choir, an Edinburgh based singing and vocal group specialising in A Capella

CURRENTLY RECRUITING TENORS AND BASSES!

We are a high quality non profit, performance Edinburgh choir who specialise in close harmony a capella using beautiful arrangements. Based in Bruntsfield and welcoming new singers!

Take Note Edinburgh choir are an enthusiastic choir and vocal group based in Bruntsfield rehearsing every Wednesday evening 7-9pm. We have a wide ranging repertoire from classical to modern pop and rock music. Our speciality is to train our singers from being keen enthusiasts to developing skills through ongoing teaching and practice.

We welcome keen singers from across Edinburgh, from Morningside, to Stockbridge, Portobello, South Gyle, Currie, Balerno, Granton and Leith – anywhere you can get a bus to rehearsals!

As of August 2021, Take Note have now returned to in person rehearsals, running Zoom in support of our remote members. This has allowed us to keep on top of our existing portfolio of songs, as well as exploring new material and it has been wonderful to hear us sing together again.

We continue to follow COVID-19 safety precautions, our care towards our singers and their families remains of the utmost importance.

We are still registering interest by potential new singers, and are now looking towards preparation of our first performance on the 1st December 2021. We do not need you to be of a professional standard, a willingness to learn and hold a tune is more important to us. Everything else we will teach!

All rehearsals and performances will continue to be assessed alongside government guidance. Please do still get in touch if you wish to discuss any future activities, events or membership and we look forward to meeting you in the future.

History of Take Note

Formerly known as Audacity, Take Note began in the summer of 2019. We started out as an a capella choir, with a repertoire stretching from the Medieval to Coldplay. In the future, we look forward to blending in musical accompaniment in collaboration with local artists. We are a committee-ran choir with a membership that is open to all.

When we first set out back in 2019, we sat down as a group and explored what we felt it meant to be a member of our community choir.

Firstly we outlined what we wanted Take Note to be – an open, positive choir that encouraged members to improve their voice and learn more about the music they sing. We were keen that our choir would retain it’s community roots and spirit.

From there, we developed our values with full participation across our choir community. If you want to read more about these, please pop along to our About Us page.

Once we had that, then all we had to do was agree on a Name! Which was a lot more complicated than we thought. It turns out our members are pretty good with the musical puns! But Take Note was the winning vote of the evening. We blossomed out to became Take Note, with a shiny new logo and a new Musical Director, Callum Morton Hüseyin.

Our MD is a classically trained director, but aims to provide Take Note singers with a wide variety of repertoire. In the last two years, we have learned music from Bruckner; Coldplay; Bernstein (West Side Story); Disney; Cole Porter and The Proclaimers, as well as the Aztec Camera piece we recorded during lockdown.

Goals of Take Note

Our goal is to perform at local events including those for charity. We seek to develop our skills as singers, learning and improving together. We seek quality in our singing – by that we mean:

  • rhythm is maintained and we maintain a piece together
  • in tune (intonation)
  • and produce a good sound (tone)

Our rehearsals incorporate methods to help our singers aspire the above.

Interested in Joining Take Note Edinburgh?

If you are interested in joining us, contact the Committee for more info or check out our Events page. We hold regular taster sessions. These sessions allow you to participate in vocal warm ups, group singing lessons and rehearsal. There is no audition process at this stage… but wait!

We do expect our members to have an ear for music, and an enthusiasm for singing. THAT’S IT!

Our MD will want to get to know your voice in order to place you in a section that suits your voice best. We do not set onerous auditions, or expect you to be a professional musician – far from it. In fact, as a member of Take Note you can enjoy benefits such as:

  • learning to sight read
  • rhythm practice
  • learn many stories about how various pieces of music can be traced back to Star Wars.
