About Take Note Edinburgh Choir. Our mission is that have a team that work together, play together and have a lot of fun as a choir

Take Note is a high quality non-profit performance Edinburgh choir. We specialise in close harmony a capella using beautiful arrangements. Our goal is to perform at events including those for charity. We aim to develop our skills as singers, learning and improving together.

Take Note Edinburgh Choir Values include challenging our singers with a wide variety of musical pieces, to gain a sense of achievement and joy by bringing our voices together. Our members must be able to follow direction

What Does Take Note do for our Singers?

It is important that we are challenged with a wide variety of pieces. We aim to gain a sense of achievement and joy through the success of bringing our voices together. We are dynamic; performing across multiple genres using simple to complex arrangements.

We expect our members to be able to follow direction. We teach sight reading to those who can’t. Having an ear for singing is more important and we accommodate both methods in practice.

Enthusiasm, energy and a willingness to dig into progressing songs is key. It helps us continue to grow our own skills as individual singers.

We are a safe space for those who want to sing and perform. https://takenoteedinburgh.co.uk/about-take-note-edinburgh-choir/want-to-join-a-choir-in-edinburghare sethttps://takenoteedinburgh.co.uk/about-take-note-edinburgh-choir/want-to-join-a-choir-in-edinburghshttps://takenoteedinburgh.co.uk/about-take-note-edinburgh-choir/want-to-join-a-choir-in-edinburgh

We are expected to keep up with the standards that are set. Rehearsals are not obligatory – we do encourage regular practice. We encourage each other to maintain that standard.

What Does that Mean as a new singer in Take Note?

We love to sing together! We have a large repertoire that we continue to build upon. As a singer with Take Note, you can suggest new songs to sing and we encourage you to join the Committee.

And if you are nervous about learning our repertoire, our members area gives you access to all of the songs we have learned to date, and we look after each other; if you are struggling, we will help you. We have in the past had subsections rehearse outside of our weekly sessions. Our MD offers personal coaching and 1:1 sessions as part of the Take Note membership. In the future, we plan to focus more on sectional rehearsals as well to really focus in on problem areas for each group. We do not look to blame, or call any individual out; we are all in this together.

Take Note Edinburgh Choir Committee

We have a Committee forming of the following roles

  • Chair
  • Musical Director
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Webmistress
  • Social Media Manager
  • Membership Officer
  • Events Manager

All of our Committee are active members of the choir and have a mixture of backgrounds. We have keen bakers and bookworms; recovering metal heads who try to sneak in Metallica into the repertoire from time to time; lovers of gin and dogs and some hardcore Disney enthusiasts and environmentalists. The Committee ensure that our singers have access to choir materials, a safe (and COVID assessed) space for rehearsals as well as organise social events outside of choir (murder mysteries, escape rooms, gin tastings…all in the pandemic) and ensure there are funds available to allow for performances to be planned out. Luckily while our tastes vary widely, we never plumb the depths of Handforth Parish Council, we have a little more harmony than that!
