Singing in Vocal Groups in Edinburgh – The New Normal #3.0

Moving Away from Zoom Rehearsals

Moving away from Zoom rehearsals looks to be a reality now. As Oor Nicola has lifted further restrictions, Edinburgh choirs can all breathe a collective sigh of relief. Now we can expect to move past level 0 and as further restrictions lift, Take Note Edinburgh is looking to the future. Welcoming new members, and practising material so far learned over Zoom and in isolation. Over the past 3 weeks, we have finally started to move away from Zoom rehearsals! First, in the cool outdoor air of Bruntsfield Links, then to the Eric Liddell Centre. We hope to welcome new singers to Take Note Edinburgh Choir, from sopranos, altos, tenors and basses, we would be interested in hearing from you.

We are now preparing to return to our longterm rehearsal space at Brunstfield Evangelical Church as it opens up it’s doors to choirs and other groups. Boy, are we excited!

Changing with the Times

Over the past 3 weeks we have:

  • Learned to sing with masks using brackets to make the singing process a little easier
  • Learned how to stop masks pinging off your face when moving your jaw enthusiastically (kirby grips, you lifesaver!)
  • Got used to singing, albeit at a distance
  • Most importantly, got to hear each other sing again and enjoy the sounds we make, together

Now we are starting to tentatively look forward once more to the future. We hope to start welcoming new members and continue to develop and grow our repertoire. https://takenoteedinburgh.co.uk/about-take-note-edinburgh-choir/want-to-join-a-choir-in-edinburgh

What lies Ahead

Moving away from Zoom rehearsals is something we are all looking forward to however we will continue to observe COVID-19 restrictions while running in-person rehearsals. Zoom will still run to support our members who cannot be there in person. Singing whilst wearing masks is a new skill we are learning (and we supply the brackets to all of our members), We will contine to wear them until risk levels indicate it is safe to remove them. We have regularly reviewed risk assessments in place; working with our rehearsal space to help protect our members. To join our Edinburgh choir, all we ask is that you have a passion for singing! We welcome and support those who do not read music and provide tools to help change that.
